Thanks for the reality check. What you are saying makes perfect sense, especially the part about the person who is revealing the techniques has no special powers. I adopted the line regarding Daya when, on the drive home yesterday, my wife asked me if I would accept knowledge.  By leaving it open-ended, albeit far fetched, I had hoped it would have helped preserve a little tranquility on our twelve-hour car ride. It only stoked the flames.
